The thing is each one of us, is the sum total of every moment that we ever experience, with all the people we have ever known. And it’s these moments that become like our history. Like our own personal of greatest hits memories that we play and replay in our minds, over and over again.
The Vow

My work was based on this well-known quote from The Vow. It’s true that it’s our memories, our experience and everything we have ever learned that shapes the people that we are today. Each one of us is unique and valuable, and we carry own unique and valuable memories with us everywhere we go. In this way, our memories of the past are mythical magical creatures whose backwards feet allow them to delve into the past and unearth the hidden treasures that are our memories. Some memories stay hidden from reality, hidden down in the deepest, darkest place of ourselves while others are thought upon often and bring joy upon recollection. My work attempts to encapsulate five different individuals’ memories into a totem form. This aids as a symbolic and visual representation of a memory that defines them as a person, a memory that changed them into the person that they are today, or simply a fond memory from their past that brings them joy upon reminiscence. My work allows you to look at, and even hold if you wish, a piece of someone you might never know. The totems encapsulate a part of their identity, and it’s a treasure, it’s precious to them and it’s something they hold dear. So I encourage you to treasure it and value their memory but also treasure and value yours as well. Because your memories are who you were, who you are and who you also wanted to be and that, my friends, is the most valuable thing you will ever own.
